The final set of beams were lifted into place on the new MetroBus bridge near Winterstoke Road last weekend. MetroBus services will use the bridge to avoid Winterstoke Road and the Cumberland Basin where congestion is forecast to increase in the coming years. The new bridge will also be used by some Airport Flyer services travelling to Bristol Airport.
We have commenced the second phase of piling operations for the bridges over New Colliter’s Brook, Longmoor Brook & Old Colliter’s Brook. This involves driving steel piles between 7m and 12m around the sub structures of the bridges.
We hope to install these using an excavator with a vibrating piling attachment. There will be some noise from this activity, but if the piles need to be installed by an air hammer then the noise...

This has to be levelled in place and compacted using a vibrating roller. Due to issues arising from the ground conditions encountered during piling and the addition of realignment works on Smeaton road to accommodate the remodelling of the Avon Crescent/Smeaton road Junction, the proposed re opening of Smeaton road has been delayed until the 27th of February 2017.

On the weekend commencing Friday 2nd September there will be a period of traffic light alterations and maintenance at the entrance of the Cala Trading Estate. This means that traffic exiting the estate will be left turn only. During these works the traffic lights will be turned off meaning that the junction becomes a giveway.
This operation will run from around 5pm on Friday 2nd September to end of play on the following Sunday, 4th September.
