On the week commencing Monday 22nd February we will start piling for the bridge over Old Colliter’s Brook. This will involve a piling rig auguring a 600mm diameter socket to a depth of approximately 14m. The auguring process is relatively quiet, with concrete delivered by standard road truck mixers and pumped into the augured hole.
This operation will take up to 3 weeks.
Following this, we need to install temporary sheet piles along the stream bank. We hope to install these using an excavator with a vibrating piling attachment. There will be some noise from this activity, but if the piles need to be installed by an air hammer then the noise generated will be greater.
This operation will take 2 days.
Balfour Beatty will only install the piles during normal working hours (8.00-17.00hrs) and will carry out noise/vibration monitoring before and during the works.
