Advance notice: Winterstoke Road closure in December for MetroBus bridge
Winterstoke Road, Bristol will be closed for one weekend in December for the construction of a new bridge for MetroBus.
A full closure of Winterstoke Road from the Ashton Gate Underpass to the roundabout with Barons Close/Wedlock Way will take place from 8pm Saturday 3 December to 8pm Sunday 4 December. The road will be closed in both directions. Diversion routes will be in place and clearly signed. A plan of the diversion is on below.
Ashton Gate Stadium and Cala Road trading estate
Bristol City Football Club have a home game at 3pm on Saturday 3 December. We expect that match day traffic will have cleared by 8pm when the first road closures take place. Any vehicles parked in the Cala Road trading estate will need to be removed by 8pm on the Saturday or risk being held until 8pm on the Sunday until the works are completed.
Further weekend works: Ashton Underpass diversion
The closure will be followed by up to ten consecutive weekend closures of the Ashton Gate Underpass and the entrance to Cala Road trading estate from 8pm on Saturdays to 8pm on the following Sunday.
Any vehicles parked in the Cala Road trading estate will need to be removed by 8pm on the Saturday or risk being held until 8pm on the Sunday until the works are completed. A minor diversion of approximately 430 metres will be in place and sign-posted. Winterstoke Road will remain open. See the above picture for the diversion details.
The new bridge is an essential part of the 50km MetroBus network. The bridge means MetroBus can avoid Winterstoke Road and the Cumberland Basin where congestion is forecast to increase in the coming years.
